Enterprise Business Modeling is a process of synthesis, a process for developing and rendering a holistic understanding of a system's purpose and definition as constrained by its environment.
For example, a Human Resources Department has a purpose only within the context of the enterprise. Alone, HR has no purpose. Thus a meaningful question is, has HR the right purpose for the enterprise? A too limited question is, has HR the right purpose?
Enterprise Business Analysis by QIS seeks to know and render detailed facts about how something works, so as to foster functional improvement and innovation. “Divide and conquer,” which is about taking things apart, applies.
But when something is taken apart, the parts are put out of context and therefore lose their essential properties. So a terribly important question is, business analysis guided by what purpose?
For example, analyzing HR less knowing its purpose runs the risk of unintentionally “re-purposing” HR, making it much less right for the enterprise.
QIS facilitates Enterprise Business Analysis guided by holistic understandings of the enterprise that result from Enterprise Business Modeling.
